2022 Fall Newsletter

Greetings Friends!

Several reasons I practice yoga and qigong are that it calms my mind and eases my anxiety; brings flexibility and strength to my body, and I absolutely love the energy and sense of connection and community of being in a class setting. That's not to say I don't ever experience anxiety. But when I do, I have the yogic tools to deal with my feelings and body sensations.

Two events will allow for more of connection and community:

Retreat to Nourish the Self - Saturday, October 1

Grand Opening of Zen Country Wellness - Saturday, October 15

Every one of us has some sort of pain, whether physical, mental, emotional. We all have pain and suffering in our lives, but sometimes it seems that's all we focus on and it rules our life. Why not treat yourself to a nourishing mini-retreat? To combat those feelings of anxiety and stress and to feel and look good on the outside, we must focus and start on the inside. From the talks and writings of Paramahansa Yogananda (Autobiography of a Yogi - one of the first yoga books I read many years ago): "Practice meditation and God-communion regularly, and you will taste the wine of joy and pleasantness all the time, no matter what your outer circumstances. Drinking the nectar of inner peace from the angel hands of your silent realization, you will drown the distractions and sorrows of your daily life." We know this can be a difficult thing, but realizing one has a soul is the beginning of awakening. Each day is a new day, another opportunity to live in the present moment, to see the beauty in life. Surround yourself with positive influences, and spread peace. And if you are hurting, reach out to someone - I am always available to listen! - so that you don't have to carry the burden alone. Family, friends and neighbours are our support. Let's get back to a sense of community!

The Buddha taught that flexibility and openness bring strength...and that running from groundlessness weakens us and brings pain. Becoming familiar with the running away, can help us identify what it is we are running away from. Openness doesn't come from resisting our fears...but from getting to know them well. It is by touching, leaning into our feelings and pain, that we find understanding...even healing.

Big love and deep peace,

Dori
